Lambeosaurus roamed the Late Cretaceous world between 83.6 and 70.6 million years ago, its name a tribute to Lawrence Lambe—literally “Lambe’s lizard.” Stretching 40 to 50 feet long and standing 7 feet tall at the hips, this beast tipped the scales at around 5 tons. Sporting a duckbill and a bold, bony crest atop its skull, Lambeosaurus was a swift bipedal herbivore, likely sprinting up to 30 miles per hour to outpace the fierce predators of its era.

It was the first duck-billed dinosaur to have been found in North America, and many specimens of it have been found not only in Alberta, Canada, but also in Montana, USA, and in Baja California, Mexico. This dinosaur’s diet probably consisted of plant life that existed in these areas at that time. Plants such as conifers, ginkgos, and magnolias were probably the main staple of this dinosaur’s diet.

One striking feature of Lambeosaurus was its predominantly hollow cranial crest, sparking bold theories among paleontologists. Some suggest it contained salt glands, others argue it boosted the dinosaur's sense of smell, while many believe it trapped air to create sounds. Though none of these ideas is confirmed, the most daring and widely embraced theory is that the crest served as a resonating chamber for sound production.

It is also believed that these dinosaurs may have congregated in great herds. This would have given them some protection against predators and would have allowed them to protect the smaller members of their group more easily.
