Lebanese Cretaceous limestone deposits are notable for their incredible diversity of fossils. These fossils often share the same coloration as the limestone matrix, a phenomenon comparable to that observed in Solnhofen, Germany. The limestone deposits at Sahel Alma, Hajoula, and Haqel date to the Cenomanian Stage of the Middle Cretaceous, around 100 million years ago. They are renowned for their exceptionally well-preserved fish fossils, along with a variety of other invertebrates such as shrimp and lobsters.
