Hemisaurida Fish that lived from the Cretaceous period, 100 million years old
The Cretaceous limestone formations of Lebanon are renowned for their remarkable variety of fauna. These fossils, comparable to those from Solnhofen in Germany, often share the unique trait of matching the color of the surrounding limestone matrix. Originating from the Cenomanian Stage of the Middle Cretaceous, around 100 million years ago, the limestone deposits at Sahel Alma, Hajoula, and Haqel are celebrated for their exceptional preservation of fossil fish, as well as a wide array of other well-preserved invertebrates like shrimp and lobsters.
