Late Triassic, 237 to 201 million years old.

Postosuchus is an extinct genus of rauisuchid archosaurs, living during the Late Triassic period (237–201 million years ago). This large predatory reptile was one of the top hunters of its ecosystem, measuring around 4–5 meters long. Its muscular body, strong legs, and long tail suggest it was a fast and agile predator, capable of chasing down a variety of prey.

The skull of Postosuchus was armed with serrated teeth ideal for ripping flesh, highlighting its carnivorous diet, which likely included smaller reptiles and early mammals. Its anatomy shows similarities to both crocodilians and early dinosaurs, reflecting its position as a key member of the archosaur lineage.

Fossils of Postosuchus have been found in North America, providing valuable insight into Late Triassic terrestrial ecosystems and the evolution of large predatory reptiles.
