Prehnite is a pale green mineral that is translucent to transparent and a member of the phyllosilicate family. It was named for the Dutch military officer Colonel Hendrik von Prehn when it was first seen in 1788. The mineral is frequently linked with other minerals like calcite and epidote and is frequently found in basaltic rocks. Prehnite is distinguished by its unusual crystal forms, which can take on shapes ranging from prismatic to tabular to botryoidal.
