Lambeosaurus is a genus of hadrosaurid dinosaur that lived about 75 million years ago, in the Late Cretaceous period of North America. It was a duck-billed dinosaur notable for the hatchet-shaped hollow bony crest on top of its skull and its crest was probably used as a weapon or as a means of defense against predators. It had a long tail with ossified tendons that kept it from drooping. They were robust, with long, sturdy front and hind legs, and had a long tail that served as balance when the animal walked. It was an herbivorous dinosaur that ate pine needles, conifers, ginkgoes, seeds, cycads, twigs, and magnolia leaves. The most distinctive feature, the crest, was different in the two well-known species.
