Rhodochrosite is a manganese-rich carbonate mineral, so is commonly found in silver mines.  The Chemical composition is: MnCO3, with a Mohs hardness between 3.5 and 4, which is very soft.  The name Rhodochrosite refers to the Greek word that means rose-colored.  It is found in clear form, but more commonly in banded forms, each band representing a precipitation event.  It is mined in Romania, South Africa, Peru, Montana, Romania, Gabon, Mexico, and Japan.  The largest specimens have been found in Colorado.  Rhodochrosite is the national gemstone of Argentina and the state mineral of Colorado.

Metaphysical properties of gemstones and minerals are provided for informational purposes only, and no life altering results are guaranteed.  Rhodochrosite is said to represent compassion and love, reclaiming lost gifts, assisting with the grief process, and healing emotional pain.
