Branchiosaur Amphibian fossil Collection

Branchiosaur is a genus of tiny amphibian, resembling a common-day salamander. Dating from the late Pennsylvanian Epoch to the Permian Period, their fossils have traces of gills, from which the name derives (Gill Lizard). Historically constituting a separate suborder but now held to be larvae of typical rhachitomous labyrinthodont amphibians.
